The University of Cape Town has participated or organised in a number of large funded consortial programmes involving student and researcher mobility. Notable amongst these are the USHEPiA programme, the EMA2SA programme and the semester study abroad programme at UCT. USHEPiA has facilitated the mobility of PhD students on sandwich degrees between partner universities in Africa, whilst EMA2SA is the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 programme, enabling mobility of Masters, PhD student and staff from South Africa to European consortial partners.

The semester study abroad programme at UCT has hosted approximately 900 international students from partner universities around the world, at UCT for a semester, on a fulltime enrolment basis. This programme has been in operation since 1999, with a steadily growing enrolment, and is testimony to UCT’s ability to support and facilitate the study experiences of international students in Cape Town.
